In today's Gospel, Jesus reminds His disciples that following Him must come before every other attachment. At first hearing, those words may sound demanding. Yet Jesus is revealing a profound truth about the spiritual life. When Christ is at the center of our lives, everything else finds its proper place. Our relationships become stronger, our priorities become clearer, and our decisions become rooted in what truly matters. Putting Christ first does not diminish the other loves in our lives; it deepens them by grounding them in God's love. Jesus then speaks about offering a cup of cold water in His name. Through this simple image, He reminds us that discipleship is often lived not in extraordinary moments, but in ordinary acts of faithfulness and love. The Lord invites us to follow Him in the everyday moments of life: through prayer, worship, forgiveness, generosity, service, and care for others. These small acts, offered with love, quietly shape our hearts and draw us closer to Christ. At St. Martin of Tours, we see that spirit every day—in those who pray, serve, teach, encourage others, and quietly care for those in need. This week, let us consider one practical way we can make more room for the Lord in our daily lives. The closer we draw to Christ, the more everything else begins to fall into place. Fr. Paul
